Biographical notes for Abraham Field Barrett
He was born on 28 January 1825, in Hobart, Tasmania. He died 22 June 1877, and is buried at Mt. Gambier. He married on 29 March 1847, at St. Stevens church, Portland, Victoria, Susan nee Shacklock. She was born 26th December 1825 in London, and died 30th January 1860, shortly after the birth of her seventh child, and is buried at Portland North. Susan was the daughter of John and Mary Ann Shacklock.
An entry appears in the Biographical Index, as follows:
Born about 1865. Died 22 June 1877, at Mt. Gambier. Arrived in Australia by 1860. Occupations were shipping agent and storekeeper. Residences were at Pt. MacDonnell and Mt. Gambier.
It has also been recorded that Abraham was an Accountant in Victoria, a shipping agent and storekeeper in SA, and that he lived in Port MacDonnell and Mt Gambier.
His inscription in the Mt Gambier cemetery reads as follows :
Abraham Field Barrett. Born at Hobart Town 28th January 1825. Died at Mt Gambier 22nd June 1877. The Cemetery records show he was a merchant at Mt Gambier. Located at Sect E, Lot 6.
Also in the same plot are Christina (wife of Duncan), Agnes Charlick, Duncan Buchanan, Mary Buchanan.
