Biographical notes for Flora Barrett nee Buchanan
Flora was born at Mt Gambier on 15 Feb 1860. She married Hugh Henry Barrett, also from the Mt Gambier area. After marriage, they set up home at No. 31 Elizabeth St. Mt Gambier. All their children were born to this address.

Hugh and her brother-in-law H. Gaillard had a general merchants shop in Commercial St. which they ran till about the turn of the century. A photo of the shop was obtained from the Mt. Gambier historian. A disagreement between Hugh and the brother-in-law / partner caused the family to move to Adelaide in 1900. Hugh set up a Greengrocer shop in Rundle St, near Frome Rd. Only Blackerby's shoe shop separated the grocer from Frome St, on the North Eastern corner. This building was demolished upon the widening of Frome St in the 1970's.

In Adelaide their residence was at Cumberland Ave, Cumberland Park. Later, an extra room was added for Field Barrett.

She died on 10 Oct 1947 at Adelaide, and is buried in the West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide.
