Biographical notes for David Milne

Source documents
Grace married a bush missionary in David Milne, and was a pioneer in the south east of South Australia. Her husband, later the Rev. Milne, was a widower with four children. Rev. Milne would be away for three months at a time then return for a fortnight. Each trip on horseback took him into the south east.

In 1865 the family moved to Kingston (SE) where they lived for nine years. During this time the first Congregational church was built, and Rev. Milne was the ordained minister. In 1874 the family moved to the new agricultural area of Bordertown. Again, a new Congregational church was built. Bordertown was Grace's home for 50 years. Here she was very active with the church fellowship, and with 'rendering assistance' in case of illness and in bringing many young lives into the world.

When Grace died, the funeral service was carried out by the then Congregational minister, Rev. C A Hawke, better known as the father of Bob Hawke, a former Prime Minister of Australia. They are not related to the Hawkes in the Bray descendant's chart.

David Bales provided much of this information.
