Biographical notes for Archibald Buchanan
Archie married a Gertrude Sarah (Gertie) Smith. Her parents were Jas Gershom Wingfield (b12.5.1877) and Thirza Dew. They had four children. Archibald Harold (1905-1980) married but had no children. John Smith (Jack) married, had a boy and a girl, but died young. Hedley (1909-?) had a Delicatessen at Nelson St. Stepney. Robert Jas (Bob) (b1906) was in the Fire Brigade in Brisbane.
Archibald died on 22 June 1936, and is buried in the Mt. Gambier Cemetery. Gertie survived another 28 years, dying on 20 December 1964. She also is in the Mt. Gambier Cemetery.
The Biographical Index has the following entry for Archibald :
Parents were Duncan and Christina nee MacArthur. Born 28 March 1869, at Mt. Gambier SA. Died 22 June 1936. Residence was at Square Mile. Married Gertrude Sarah nee Smith, whose parents were James Gershom Wingfield and Thirza nee Dew. She was born 12 May 1877 at Mt. Gambier, and died in 1964. Their children were Archibald Harold (1905 - 1980), Robert James (1906 - ), John Smith ( - 1970) and Hedley Duncan (1909 - ).
