Herbert's wife, Hellen Banna (known as Nellie), was the second daughter of Robert Thomson of Port Adelaide. Herbert and Hellen were married by Rev W Hopkins. A Rev W Hopkins was listed by the Congregational Church about this time. He was at Glenelg in 1879. The residence of F Goldney, where they were married, was possibly the home of Herbert's sister (name unknown) who married F Goldney, publican of the Napperby Hotel. Refer press cutting Pt Pirie Gazette and Area News, Friday 18 January 1878, which reports the complete destruction of Keightley Bros store and Post Office, their houses and Goldney's house. The fire ocurred one year after Herbert and Hellen's marriage. The Keightley Brothers referred to were Charles Stanford and Herbert, assuming he is the 'H Keightley, General Storekeeper and Postmaster, Government Dam, Napperby', who placed such an advertisement in the Port Pirie Gazette and Area News on 12 January 1877.
Residences included Napperby (1877 - Storekeeper and Postmaster), Quebec St Pt Adelaide, Frederick St Maylands, Royal Hotel Moonta (1890-93 Publican), Harrow Rd East Adelaide (1903 Traveller, wine salesman), Richmond St College Park (1904), Pennington Ter North Adelaide (1911), Angelo St South Perth).
